Girl Scout Global Citizen Essay Contest

A person who understands and appreciates cultural differences, and strives to
instill this virtue in others.

Eligibility requirements
- Girls must be registered Girl Scouts.
- Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 17.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Essay Guidelines
- Selection for the Girl Scouts Global Citizen Essay Contest is
based primarily on the sincerity, clarity and overall quality of
thought demonstrated in your essay.
- Please type your essay on separate pieces of paper.
- Girls ages 12 to 14 should limit their responses to 400
words, and girls ages 15 to 17 should limit their responses
to 500 words.
- Additional text, transcripts, letters of recommendation or
any other supplementary material will not be considered.
Awards
- The twelve winners in the younger category will travel
together on a 4-day, expenses-paid educational tour of
Washington, D.C.
- The six winners in the older category will travel together on
a 7-day, expenses-paid educational tour of Europe.
- The 4-day and 7-day tours will take place between July 23
and August 7, 2008.
- Awards include round-trip airfare, transportation, hotels,
breakfast, and dinner.

Instructions
Applications should be typed or printed clearly.
1. Staple your typed essay to the application form.
All pages must measure 8 1/2” x 11”.
2. DO NOT use report covers or folders.
3. INCLUDE your name, address, troop name,
council and age on each page of your essay.
4. DO keep copies of your submissions. Application
forms and essays will not be returned.
5. DO NOT fax your application—it will not be accepted.
6. DO fill in all requested information. Incomplete
applications will not be considered.
7. Sign the application.
8. If submitting the application and essay electronically,
please attach as an MS Word document.
