- attend Camp Feather Winds Resident camp at a price that is affordable
to most girls. In 2008, Camp Feather Winds cost will be only $200 per
girl for 6 days of camp. It is the goal of Tongass Alaska Girl Scout
Council to allow every girl the opportunity to attend. This is
possible with everyone’s financial support.
- attend one of 10 Council supported Day camps throughout SE Alaska. Day
Camps provide opportunities for girls to participate in community wide
groups outside of a troop setting, introduce Girl Scouting to girls and
adults in SE communities.
- attend Camp Feather Winds resident camp at a reduced cost through financial
aid called a “campership”. In addition to the cost of camp,
most Girl Scouts in SE Alaska live in communities which can only access
Juneau by ferry or by airplane. Costs to travel to Juneau by ferry
for Resident Camp can be as high as $400 for a girl over the age of 12.
By donating to the Council more girls can attend Camp Feather Winds because
of camperships.
- participate in community events such as babysitting training, Thinking
Day, First Aid/CPR, “Odd Girl Out” (anti-bullying), Mothers
Against Drunk Driving, Personal Safety, Mother/Daughter tea, Father/Daughter
dances, Early Bird registration.
- become a Girl Scout – assist in paying registration fees, uniform
costs, and event fees
- attend Destination Camps outside of SE Alaska. As the result of donations
girls have attended Destinations. In 2007, 17 Tongass Alaska Girl
Scouts from 4 different SE Alaska communities participated in Minnesota
Dreams, a destination camp attended by over 2,000 Girl Scouts from across
the United States.
- donations help purchase and/or rent supplies and equipment used in
Girl Scout events such as kayaks, first aid supplies, microscopes, robotic
computers.
Donations also girls indirectly benefit from having trained
volunteer leaders who can coach, mentor, train and guide girls to develop
leadership skills and 15 leadership outcomes* (see Uniquely Girl Scouts)
to the fulfillment of the Girl Scout mission to build girls of courage,
